About me

Jesse Hernandez (she/her)

I have deep respect for the power of community.

I started my career in social work as weekend staff in a Residential Treatment Center for children. I quickly found my love for working with kids was equaled by my love for creating programming and understanding systems of care.

I also saw that taking children out of community for treatment was fundamentally flawed. As a gardener, I know that our environment informs our growth.

I have focused on building relationships and actively volunteering with nonprofits to stay grounded.

I work diligently to bring an intersectional vulnerability index lens to positions of power and decision-making, with a fierce commitment to justice.

I keep asking hard questions and working to soften hearts.

In January 2020, I fulfilled a 10-year dream of purchasing land and moved to Dexter New Mexico with my husband. We raise alpacas, bees, cattle, goats, turkeys, and chickens.
